Life's a beach...
Well, isn't it so? Life is a wonderful, adventurous, sometimes hot, sometimes extra cold, golden beach! And it doesn't matter how hard it may be, how tricky it becomes, it is exciting and it is only you who can call her a beautiful "beach" or the other "b" word...
You are the sole commender of it and it is only in your power to change everything that doesn't please you or just stop complaining. Do something. Get out there and change something. Change the way you wake up every morning, change the hour, change your routine, change your schedule, your activity, your reading material, your food, the hour you go to sleep, the way you sleep. Change everything that you do not like and I promise you, it will change you. You will become a better person!
Having studied acting and drama, I have worked some years as a drama therapist and I know how important all these things are and while you work as an actor, you learn that every individual is formed by gestures, habits, routines. Everything that we do reflects upon us and upon our personality, so it is very easy to change this. And I will give you one example: smoking and quitting it! I have been a smoker for more than 12 years, in all my adolescence and early 20s so I have practically developed my personality around this habit. The cigarette was there at every big moment in my life, it was my friend, the thing that I could count on and the thing that people associated me with. It was all a glamorous role and every time I lit up a cigarette I felt like I was in the Jazz era, in the 20s, in a very romantic set up. But, one day, I have decided to stop. After 12 years, I said enough and it was not because I felt bad, I didn't have any health issues, money was not really a thing, because let's face it - you rather quit food than not finding the last change to buy a pack of cigs, so what was it? I didn't have any powerful motivation, but there was something beyond that. I needed to become a better version of myself and I couldn't see that I could become the best while smoking. So, I stumbled upon a book by Allen Carr and trust me, this is no paid ad, I don't get any benefit from this, it is just my sole experience and I hope that it can help you too. This book is about a couple of hours reading, 100 pages or so and it took me three weeks to finish it, because I knew that at the end of it, I will stop smoking, so I pushed the end away and smoked even more during that time. But when I finished it, I stoped smoking...
The first 7 days are the worst, but then you realize that a week has passed and every little thing that you thought you couldn't do without a cigarette, is even better. You start tasting the food and it is like a new universe opens up and you embrace the taste of coffee, of chocolate, of fruits, of meat, cheese and so many things that you had no idea they taste so good. It is like your taste was numbed. And then you see you have so much more energy. You can run, you can laugh, you can swim better and you do not feel tired at all. Then you see that you have so much time. It is like you lost 1/4 of a day smoking, going out for a cigarette, talking, socializing with smokers, etc. and now all this time is yours and you can work, you can concentrate more without craving for a smoke every 30 minutes, without thinking of it, so your whole energy goes in whatever direction you want to. Then, you do no have to go outside a restaurant, during winter, freezing, to smoke a cigarette.
This is my experience and I do not want to force you to do anything. You have to take this decision for yourself, but this is a pattern that can apply to every habit that you wish to change, even if it is eating too much, eating junk food, drinking too much beer and so on, it is a style of life that you can control. 7 days is not too much and then there are 21 days in which you can forget completely about a habit. I feel like I was never a smoker. I forgot that crazy drive, the addiction. You can too! You can change whatever you wish to change, surround yourself with all the beauty, surround yourself with colors and build up the world you want! Build up the beach where you wish to live, where you can fulfill your potential as a human being! Choose your style!
